Tom Cruise Seeks a Second Chance with Sofia Vergara After Her Split

Tom Cruise reportedly has his sights set on rekindling a connection with Sofia Vergara, following her recent separation from her husband, Joe Manganiello. The “Top Gun” superstar, now 61, briefly dated the “Modern Family” actress, aged 51, in 2005, just before his relationship with Katie Holmes, who is now 44.

“They do have that history already, even if it was more of a brief dalliance than a fully fledged romance,” a source told the UK’s Heat magazine, as reported by the Mirror. “They had a special time together partying in the Hollywood Hills and having a blast. Sofia wasn’t really giving out the signals back then that she wanted anything long-term, so it petered out in a totally amicable fashion, and they remained friends,” the insider further revealed.

“It’s always eaten away at Tom that he dumped Sofia and chose Katie.”

InStyle previously reported that Cruise was introduced to Vergara by his friend Will Smith in February 2005. They were photographed together on one date, and the romance reportedly fizzled out shortly after.

According to Andrew Morton, author of the best-selling biography “Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography,” Vergara “was dazzled by Tom’s megawatt smile and amused by the blizzard of phone calls, flowers, and chocolates that followed their first meeting.”

However, the actress, a devout Catholic, soon became concerned that Cruise would want her to convert to Scientology.

“It soon became clear that she was being auditioned for the biggest role of her life — Mrs. Tom Cruise,” Morton wrote. “It was made clear that if she took the part, she would have to renounce her Catholic faith and convert to Scientology.”

“She was fundamentally terrified of Scientology,” one of Vergara’s friends told Morton. “She sincerely believed that she would be struck down by God and burn in hell if she joined.”

This reported romance subsequently ended, and Cruise began dating Katie Holmes in April 2005. The couple married and welcomed their daughter, Suri, the following year before splitting in 2012.

Before his relationship with Holmes, Cruise was married to Nicole Kidman from 1990 to 2001, and they have two children together, Connor and Isabella.

On the other hand, Vergara was previously married to her high school sweetheart Joe Gonzalez from 1991 to 1993, and they share a son, Manolo. She later wed actor Joe Manganiello in 2015, but they recently surprised fans by announcing their separation last month.

In a joint statement to Page Six, the actors said, “We have made the difficult decision to divorce.”

“As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”

Manganiello has since filed for divorce from Vergara, citing irreconcilable differences.
